5 Social Distancing Activities

COVID-19, it's something I don't think any of us could have truly prepared for and we have still yet to feel the full effects of this world wide pandemic... So, how is social distancing going for you? For me, I thrive off routine and consistency. I'm a planner and I like to have a schedule. Recently, due to lack of routine and consistency I've found myself anxious, overwhelmed and uninspired despite my excessive free time. Does this sound like you? If so, I've compiled a few simple DIY and craft activities that can be done from the comforts of your own home. I've also included some ways you can help and give back to the community, listed at the bottom of this post. I truly hope that in this difficult, trying and otherwise uncertain time you can find comfort or solace in creating.

Create a fresh/ faux floral arrangement
I had to run out to the store this weekend to grab some more eggs and while I was there I grabbed some fresh eucalyptus because flowers and greenery always brighten my mood. I realized I had some old vases from the dollar tree sitting around but I didn't like the way they looked. I have a pretty solid collection of spray paint so I figure why not spruce just take the time and spruce up the vases? Two coats of spray paint later and I absolutely love the way it turned out. This took me all of maybe 5 minutes or so? And it was fun to repurpose something I probably would have otherwise donated or tossed. Plus, it was a cute way to display the eucalyptus. If you can't venture out to the store search your home for some faux florals.

Organize your pantry
Now that you probably have a two week supply of food lying around, what better time than to organize your pantry! Lets be honest, some of us probably needed to do this years ago. But what better time than now? And despite what Instagram may tell you, you don't need label makers or cute storage bins - although this certainly would make this project a little more fun. I bet you your family will love being able to efficiently find all the good snacks in your newly organized closet.

Make a decorative embroidery hoop
If you have the supplies or are able to order from amazon consider making your own version of this adorable embroidery hoop. A hoop, fabric or ribbon, hot glue gun and faux florals can make for a cute wall hanging to add to your home.

Create a piece of wall art
Some yarn and a piece of driftwood or branch is all you need to make an adorable boho inspired decor piece. You can even spice it up using some beads or embroidery hoops. Have fun with it and don't worry about making it look just like the photos. These are just for inspiration, have FUN with it!

Sort through your closet
Although we may be currently in the throws of a national pandemic it is still technically that time of the year, spring cleaning! Go through everything in your home from coats to shoes to clothes and really spend time letting go of things that no longer serve you. Now, more than ever, many families are being and will continue to be impacted by COVID-19. So set aside things you no longer want until this all calms down and then donate them. Someone out there would be thrilled and truly appreciate your gently worn items.

Ideas to help others
- order take out from your favorite restaurant
- purchase bottles from your favorite brewery or winery
- purchase gift cards from your favorite small businesses, hairdressers, estheticians, etc
- write letters to local nursing home residents
- donate to your local food pantry

Take this time to fuel your creativity, be grateful for your health and for those you hold close. Things are scary and overwhelming right now but they will get better. So for now, lets all do our part in reducing this monster by heeding the warnings and staying in. This too shall pass.
